Spiders - Spider Facts
Spiders, arachnids, are arthropods with eight legs and fangs that inject venom into their prey. In order to trap their prey, many spiders build elaborate webs which perform three basic functions: capture the prey, stop the prey and prevent the prey from escaping. Most spiders will bite only in self-defense and very few cause anything worse than a bite resembling a mosquito bite or a bee sting. Recluse spiders and widow spiders have poisonous bites but are extremely rare in this geographical area. Females can lay up to 3,000 eggs per egg sac. While most spiders do not present a health concern for humans, many humans suffer from arachnophobia or fear of spiders, making their presence a nuisance.
