Cockroaches, of the order Blattaria, are considered among the hardiest and fastest moving insects on the planet. The palmetto bug, as it’s known in the southern United States, travels quickly and can fit into small cracks and under doors despite being rather large. In residential areas, cockroaches prefer basements, crawl space , porch crevices and foundations as they prefer moist areas. In their search for their preferred food, fermenting foods, roaches leave chemical trails with their feces and emit pheromones both of which can transmit bacteria on surfaces. Adult cockroaches can live up to a year, with females producing an average of 150 young, meaning that extermination is important.
